{"id":290,"date":"2021-12-21T13:28:20","date_gmt":"2021-12-21T02:28:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/driftwood.com.au\/mpaynestaging\/home\/"},"modified":"2021-12-28T17:07:04","modified_gmt":"2021-12-28T06:07:04","slug":"about-mark-payne","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/driftwood.com.au\/mpaynestaging\/about-mark-payne\/","title":{"rendered":"About Mark Payne"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<h4><br><\/h4>\n<span style=\"color: rgb(255, 255, 255);\">mark payne<\/span><br>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have been passionately painting for 35 years.  \nIn many ways my fine art journey was supported\nby an early career in the pressured, competitive fields of media and publishing. <br><\/p><p><br><\/p><p>Reflecting on this time, I see the benefits it offered me as a painter, through a discipline of techniques, travel, and a degree of confidence to resume my initial desire to be a painter. <br><\/p><p><br><\/p><p>\nA few highlights of that early career are: <br><\/p><p><br>Working for the BBC U.K. on Children\u2019s Television Programs\n<br>Winning an Australian Art Director\u2019s Award,\n<br>Producing a series of Animations for European Television,\n<br>Being a represented Cartoonist  in London and Illustrator of 40 children\u2019s books for leading international Publishers. <br><\/p><p><br><\/p><p>\nWhen 3 of my paintings were selected for publication in a prestigious Japanese Art Coffee Table Book, it made me think&#8230;perhaps it was time to commit to the path of fine art.  Since then I have been self-teaching the intricacies of painting.<\/p><p><br><\/p><div>\nWorking in Europe gave me unique access to Eastern European Art Naif influence.\n I love painting in that joyful boundary- free way and sometimes accept property portrait commissions in that style (see &#8216;The long Ride of Anne Dry&#8217;). <br><\/div><div><br><\/div><div>Whilst  painting in Cornwall I found a new audience quite by chance when a buyer from \u2018The Friends of The Tate Gallery\u2019  purchased a small painting. \nI began building a collection of paintings for exhibition.\nFrom those early days, my work has been exhibited in Galleries in England, USA and Australia. <br><\/div><div><br><\/div><div>I have been fortunate to have married a Gallery owner who has been my loyal consistent friend, supporter and most importantly a true \u2018Muse\u2019. She also has quite a successful, remarkable  and  diverse career path. <br><\/div><div><br><\/div><div>Today, home is in the beautiful Hepburn shire surrounded by a dramatic panorama\nof extinct volcanos. My studio is a sequestered room of an old Edwardian farmhouse brimming with canvases I stretch and a very healthy collection of paints, brushes and paint spattered easels.
